This Week’s Milestones with Maverick. Amazing Progress!

This week has been a really good one for Maverick! I’m so excited to share the progress we’ve seen. One of the things that stood out to me was how much more eye contact he’s been making lately. It’s such a simple thing, but to see him looking at us more, engaging with us more—it just melts my heart.

Another big win was Maverick playing with toys! There were multiple times throughout the week where he just ignored his iPad and decided to play with his toys instead. Even during his physical therapy evaluation, toys caught his attention. Oh hey, toys…how are you? He was pulling them in and out of the bucket, thoroughly absorbed in his own little world. It might seem small, but for us, it’s a huge moment of progress.

As we move forward, we’re starting physical therapy soon. It was determined that Maverick needs it, especially to help with some of his physical challenges. He’s been struggling to step up or even attempt stairs, so this will hopefully be a big step in improving that. While it’s something we need to do, I’m optimistic that it will help him gain more confidence and strength.

Beyond that, I’m just so excited to see all the strides Maverick has made this week. Even the little moves of progress feel like a big win. As a mom, you learn to celebrate those small victories because they mean so much in the grand scheme of things.

This week, the boys were on spring break, and we had discussed the possibility of a quick trip to New York. They’ve been asking to go for a couple of days, and honestly, I would love to take them. But there’s always that one big question we have to ask—how will this affect Maverick? And after weighing things, I just don’t think he’s ready for a long trip like that yet, especially where we won’t be in full control of the environment.

But, fingers crossed, we’re hoping he’ll be ready for a trip this summer. I’ve got some exciting plans in the works with my family, and I’d really love for everything to go smoothly. But let’s be real—having a neurodivergent child often means that things don’t always go as planned, and I’m prepared for the inevitable derailment. At least with the right mindset, we can roll with it!

So, while this week may have had some challenges, it’s also been full of little victories that I’m so proud of. Watching Maverick grow and learn at his own pace is such a rewarding experience, and I can’t wait to see what the next week brings.
